In Memory of…

Paul Siefried

Paul died November 28, 2019

Paul went to Cubberley, DeMille, and graduated from Millikan. He loved classical music and eventually trained in the field of string instrument making. Ultimately, he became a world-renowned bow maker, for string instruments. He originally had a shop in LA, but wanted a calmer more serene locale. He moved with hiis wife and two kids to Port Townsend, Washington. Port Townsend is something of a mecca for fine bow makers.

Paul was always a tremendous artist. I remember his leather works belt making and in 1967 he made a hand drawn replica of a Bob Dylan poster for $5.00. Had it on my wall for years. He'll be making bows for the angels.
I remember him well, god speed to his family.

Visited Paul several years ago in his shop in Port Townsend. His Dad was there also. I told him of my memory of how our drafting teacher accused him of having his Dad do an illustration of a house design for him instead of doing it himself. I went up to Mr. Pauley and told him that Paul was a great and talented artist and he was wrong to accuse Paul of turning in his father's work. Well, his Dad confessed and Paul agreed that his Dad did do the drawing. A good hard laugh was had by all. I saw his work, beautiful intricate bows. The internet is full of accolades about his work. RIP Paul

Very sorry to read of Paul’s passing. He was a good friend during our Cubberley days. Very artistic, lotsa laffs. Not much contact during the DeMille/Millikan yrs. Always checked the reunion website for his profile. Glad to read of his renown as an instrument craft-maker. My condolences to his family & friends.

I knew Paul from Cubberly and when we moved to the Ranchos, his dad had a VW bug, and I ended up seeing a lot of hiim thru DeMille..  I have many fond memories of Paul, from Dons and Debs dance school, thumbing to beach, or camping out in Sierras....He used to hide his Beatle boots from Hardys in our ivy patch, because his dad wouldnt let him wear them to school.   Adios

I regret that I didn't meet Paul, especially beause of the countless hours I've spent with cello and violin bows in my hand. Ironically, I used to visit Port Townsend regularly for music festivals. I've been watching for his bows in the local shops but they will probably be out of my price range.

Thanks for posting the Tarisio article!
