I did not realize, until just now, that Barbara Blethen and Barbara Nelson-Simpson were the same person. I had become Facebook friends with Barbara, via one of the Long Beach or Millikan related Facebook groups. I didn't really know her, but happily accepted her friend request. I just assumed she was one of our huge class that I simply never got a chance to know. But, I immensly enjoyed her Facebook posts, particularly when she and her husband took road trips. We seemed to do a lot of road trips to the same areas. As I followed her posts and learned of her battle with cancer, I was struck by how good-humored--even cheeky--she was about it. She was so upbeat, I never realized how ill she actually was, until one of her final posts, which sounded like a good-bye to friends.
It was a joy to share her excitement and wonder at places that I was also visiting, like The Road to the Sun, in Glacier National Park, or Elkhorn Slough, near Monetery, CA. I think she squeezed every last good drop out of life that she was able... and I am in awe of that.

The memory of a Mohave Community College employee will live on, through a scholarship set up in her name. Barbara Nelson-Simpson was the assistant to the college dean at MCC’s Bullhead City campus. She bravely fought the cancer that took her life in the summer of 2016.

Barbara was a dear friend. She was one of the sweetest women I've ever met. In addition, she was always fun with a warm heart!!! She is missed by all that have had the good fortune to have known her.
