Terry's longtime friend, Jim Buckingham, wrote the following:
I just received notice yesterday (6/10/2022) that Terry Hammerwold passed away from congestive heart failure. Terry was one of my closest friends from seventh grade through our time together at USC. I have so many great memories of him and his family: Gaylord, Vera, Skip, Christy and Jeri.
Terry married and I had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Teri, and their two beautiful daughters. After USC, Terry went to the University of Hawaii and lived with my cousin, Rick Ford, as he completed his Master’s degree in Ocean Engineering. He worked in this field for the rest of his life until his retirement a few years ago.

Terry did one project in Lake Travis near Austin awhile back and we had a chance to get together for a few hours in my home to watch a USC Football game. The years melted away and our friendship was rekindled. Terry was one of a kind, and I will miss him very much. |

Terry was my roommate at USC with two members of the baseball team. We live in an apartment on Ellendale Place just off campus. We worked hard, played hard, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Like all things, graduation and work pursuits ended the party. Marriage, kids, and work took us different directions. We stayed in touch for a while, but contact faded over time. I am deeply sorry to hear this news and thank Jim Buckingham for posting it. We have all experienced many rights of passage. This one I wish would stay away. Rest In Peace Terry. You've live a great life and made this crazy world a better place. Gwynne and I send our thoughts to his family.

Found this in my archives. From a backpacking trip to Yosemite circa 1972. Sue Degan & Jeri Hammerwold (seated) Christy Hammerwold, Forrest Kendall, Fern Kendall, Terry Hammerwold, Gordon McCleary. Back in the day we backpacked several times in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Good times!

Sorry to hear this. Thanks for posting, Jim. High school memories are fading (after 50+ years!) but he wrote in my yearbook "thanks for your help with the Purple Press" which I think was an alternative rag published on mimeograph. If the memory of that smell doesn't take you back to the 60's, I don't know what will. RIP Terry.
