In Memory of…

Tim Phelps

Tim Phelps

Tim had been battling complications from diabetes for years, always with an upbeat and optimistic attitude. Diabetes affected his heart and his kidneys and caused the below the knee amputation of one of his legs. Eventually these complications became more than his body could stand. He passed on January 11.

Tim was a native Californian, born in Orange.  He attended Emerson Elementary, Stanford Jr. High, and Millikan before getting his Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation at CSULB.  He spent 30 years in that field, including being Director of Recreation in Anaheim, Orange, Saddleback, and Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

Tim had two children, Nicholas & Natalie, from his first marriage.  In 1998, at the Class of ‘68 30th reunion, he got reacquainted with Kathy (Shonts) Green.  They were married in July, 1999 and were blessed with a wonderful marriage for 23 years.

I am saddened by the news of Tim's passing.  He was such a fun loving man.  I reunited our friendship at one of the reunion Habitat for Humaity projects he spear headed.  Kathy and I learned to mud dry wall seams and he found reasons to check in our progress.  The reason turned out to be his love for Kathy!!! They were a great pairing!!!🥰🍷  I enjoyed running into him around Cypress and seeing him at the 50th reunion was special.  He leaves his infectious smile imprinted in my memory.  Hugs to Kathy and the rest of his family.  May your memories bring you smiles!! 🥰

When I think of Tim, I think of fun. A big smile. Intramural sports. The "Barbanel Bombers". His brother Bob. And just a bunch of good hangout time. Condolences.

Oh Kathy, such a great loss for you and many others who loved Tim.  He was such a bright star at Millikan, and he always brought a smile and laugh to my face.  For some reason Sandy Gribble nicknamed him "Chucky" and that is what Sandy and I called him.  It was an honor when he asked if I would escort his dad on to the football field for a game, thanks Tim.  Great memories of high school don't exist because of the schoolwork or even the teachers.  For me, the memories exist because of great friends like Tim.  It was so wonderful when you two got together at the reunion and seeing you both at the 50th was great.  Take care Kathy and see you at the 55th.
